Member Spotlight -- Miss Willy Baldwin

Miss Willy Baldwin entered the world of purebred dogs in 1952 and has bred and exhibited under the kennel name O'Kiwi. Although the Australian Terrier is her primary breed, Miss Willy currently co-owns a Silky Terrier and has trained and exhibited many Silky Terriers over the years. She is currently exhibiting in conformation and is actively training and mentoring a large number of owner handlers with their class dogs and Specials.

Miss Willy is a former professional handler exhibiting breeds such as Standard Poodles, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Labrador Retrievers, Australian Terriers, Silky Terriers, Basset Hounds, and Beagles, and many more.

Willy has bred 9 litters of Australian Terriers and 2 litters of White Standard Poodles. Miss Willy has earned 15 championships, 3 CDs and 1 CDX on her dogs. The legendary Kiku Kennedy was her dear friend and mentor in Australian Terriers.

A founding member of the New Mexico Toy Group Club, Miss Willy has served most recently as Assistant Show Chair and is up for election as President in February 2011.

Miss Willy is most concerned abut the prohibitive breeding legislation that is currently pending not only locally but nationally. Additionally, the excessive fees not being imposed on animal owners is of high concern.

Health and structural problems due to breeding to top winning sires who may or may not be the best choice for a particular bitch is one of the most important issue facing our breeds today.

NMTGC looks forward to the vision and guidance of Miss Willy Baldwin as she takes on the challenges of the Club in 2011.
